Message From Tim Chestney:

DJCT parents and players,

After almost 15 years of coaching in Austin and being a part of DJCT when it started back in 2011, I am moving to San Antonio FC to work with the SAFC Pro Academy USDA youth teams along with the USL pro team that is affiliated, owned and operated by Spurs Sports and Entertainment, starting the week of Aug. 14.  The offer for the position and interviewing process has been a whirlwind that just transpired this past week and I felt the timing of this door opening was more than just coincidence.  This move is being made in large part to be closer to my kids, who will be starting school in San Antonio at the end of August 2017 (my ex-wife recently moved to SA).  Coaching nights and weekends, along with living in Austin, would have made it very hard to spend time with my kids, and as a father to a now 13-teen year old, I realize that this is time that I can't get back.

The move is more than just a little bittersweet as I have loved coaching all the kids/teams that I've been fortunate to work with, along with a great group of coaches and parents who have made DJCT the unique club we are today.  I'd like to particularly thank the team managers throughout the entire club, and specifically, the team managers for my teams (Irene, Kyle and Thinh) for all the work they do.  In my opinion, the people we have on coaching staff for DJCT is what makes the club different, and I want to thank them all for their years' of service.  Coach Darci and Coach Mike have been with me from just about the beginning of my coaching career, so I'd like to acknowledge them specifically.  My boss, John Nelms, has provided me the opportunity to grow as a director and coach, and for that I'm very appreciative of the faith shown in me to help guide the club these past seven years.

I can tell you the club is in great shape moving forward and the transition to Dundee Juniors is an exciting time.  Our restructuring of roles and responsibilities back in May, with Darci (Director of Business Operations/admin), Alex (Interim DOC/Technical Director), Mike (College Exposure Director), Matteo (Jr Academy Director), Marc (Goalkeeping Director) and Kevin Chee (Communications Director) puts the club in great shape as I transition to San Antonio.  Specifically for my three teams (04B, 03B, 02B), although I'm sad that I won't be working with the players this season, I know you will be in very good hands with Zach (04B), Tom Stone/Alex (03B) and Mike (02B), respectively, taking over the teams.

I plan to be resource and help to the club/coaching staff in any way I can moving forward and I extend that invitation to all DJCT parents/players  The reasons I started coaching was a passion for the awesome game, combined with a love for teaching and working with kids. The role of coach has no greater moment than when a former player from years-gone-by runs into you somewhere and you get to reminisce on a shared experience; a game, practice or moment that you both can recall instantly and brings a smile to your face.  I look forward to that happening.  Thanks to everyone for being a part of DJCT and allowing me to do what I've loved doing all these years!

Message From John Nelms:

All DJCT Families,

Today is a sad day for all of us here at DJCT as we say goodbye to our Director of Coaching Tim Chestney.  Tim is moving south to San Antonio to be closer to his young family and will be working for the United Soccer Leagues San Antonio FC s Pro Academy.

Although we are sad we really should be celebrating Tim and his accomplishments and contribution to soccer in Austin.  When you think of Soccer in Austin, especially the good stuff, you think of Tim Chestney.  Tim has been at the forefront in youth soccer for the last 15 years and has been with DJCT since its inception.  He is the personification of all that is good in sport and has embedded that in the staff and formed the basis of our culture at DJCT.  Tim has positively influenced several hundreds of young players and coaches alike, and we are all the better for it.

Tim, from myself and all of the DJCT family, we cannot thank you enough. You will be sorely missed and we wish you all the best in your new endeavour.
