Mike Jaynes

My coaching philosophy focuses on providing a structured and challenging, but enjoyable playing and learning environment for all my players.  Soccer, or any sport, especially at the youth level, is about more than just wins and losses, or what the scoreboard says.  I strive to use coaching and sport as an opportunity to educate kids and prepare them for life on and off the field.  The lessons learned on the field while having success, or facing adversity, will help build character and provide invaluable life lessons for all young players.

My teams will always play hard, never give up, learn from our mistakes, respect the game, and be sportsmanlike in victory or defeat.  We will play together, always encourage our teammates, be positive and strong, and win and lose as a team.  Overall, we will strive to better ourselves both individually and as a team, improving every time we step on the field, but most of all enjoy the game and have as much fun as possible!

Awards/Accomplishments as Coach:

Not much here, unless you count taking a U9 Academy boys team to a Tournament Final – Lonestar Spring Shootout 2016 (got a finalist medal for it, so I guess that’s something).

Playing experience:

Played from 7 years old all the way through college, starting in my native California (AYSO) and then in Colorado (Club, High School, and College).

Club team – Parker Pioneers (1981-84)

High school – Ponderosa, All-conference (Winger) junior and senior years (1984-85)

College – Colorado School of Mines (NCAA Div II), Academic All-district (Defender) sophomore and junior years (1987-88)

Played mostly midfield growing up, then out wide for club team, moved to defender early in HS, but then back to preferred winger spot.  Moved back to defender in college due to size and lack of skills at that level.

Continued on playing in several adult soccer leagues, both indoor and outdoor, in Florida and here in Austin. Currently playing in the indoor league at Hill Country Indoor, both Open and 40+.
